Background

The NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014 requires each council to have a Disability Inclusion Action Plan, setting out the actions and measures it intends to put in place so that people with disability can access general supports and services available in the community and participate fully in community life without barriers. The Draft Burwood Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026, also known as the DIAP, is Burwood Council’s four-year roadmap to achieve these goals.

Burwood Council has long been committed to building and strengthening an inclusive and diverse community in which people of all abilities are able to connect, participate and thrive. The DIAP has been drafted in alignment with Council’s new Community Strategic Plan, Burwood 2036, and in consultation with people with disability, their families, carers, service providers and advocates. It includes 14 goals and 43 actions to achieve positive community attitudes and behaviours, liveable communities, access to meaningful employment and equitable access to services.

We welcome you to download a copy of the Draft DIAP and the Community Engagement Background Report (available to the right) and submit your feedback and comments to Council by Wednesday 27 July 2022.

Following the public exhibition process, a report providing a summary of submissions received and amendments made to the draft document, will be presented to Council for adoption.
