Burwood Council would like your say on the official naming of Wangal Park. An application will be submitted to the Geographical Names Board to register the name Wangal Park for the area in Lot 1 DP1198616 (please see map below).

Wangal Park is one of Burwood Council’s premier parks providing various active and passive recreational activities as well as providing habitat for native animals and assisting in local catchment management.

Previously called Cheltenham Road Park, it was renamed Wangal Park in 2006 following a park a Council resolution. This name was formally endorsed by the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council. However, the name has not yet been registered in the NSW Geographical Names Board.

The registration of the park name will strengthen the relationship and connection between the people of Burwood and the traditional owners of the land, the Wangal clan. This also allows a basis for clear communication, location and addressing, which are essential for emergency services, postal and service delivery as well as navigation.
