Project Overview

Burwood Council is set to revitalise Ford Lane transforming it into a vibrant cultural hub that celebrates art, music and community. Located in the heart of Burwood CBD, as part of the "License to Play: Burwood Event-Ready Streets" initiative, this project will feature site-specific murals and a programmable lighting installation, enhancing the laneway's appeal for public events and activations. Council aims to foster a dynamic environment where creativity and culture can thrive, contributing to Burwood's emergence as a leading destination for arts and culture

To achieve this vision, Council launched the Ford Lane Murals Project, seeking artists to transform the laneway through a dynamic new public art series. Artists were invited to respond to the themes of celebrating Burwood’s rich musical heritage and its thriving contemporary arts scene. The series of site-specific murals will create a vibrant corridor of sound, colour, and cultural storytelling - connecting legendary icons of Australia’s music history linked to Burwood, such as AC/DC and The Easybeats, with the new wave of emerging talent from Burwood’s diverse creative community. From rock and pop to K-pop and hip-hop, these works will honour the sounds of the past while spotlighting the energy of today’s rising artists - a bold fusion of old and new that reflects Burwood’s evolving identity as a cultural hotspot.

Following a highly competitive selection process, Council is pleased to announce the commissioned artists: Drez, Jason Parker, Georgia Hill, Studio Okto, and Eve Bracewell. These artists are now working through artwork development in consultation with Council and property owners, with installation set to commence shortly.

This page will continue to be updated as artworks are finalised and installation progresses to keep the community informed about this exciting transformation of Ford Lane.

Selected Artist: Jason Parker

Sitting at the crossroads between wistfulness and hope, Jason's imagery, bright, bold, and beautiful as it may be tells a tale of rumination and vulnerability. Within visually dense works, you will find a play between chaos and control, depicting the beauty that lies in the tension between these two points.
