Council has recently endorsed draft updates to the Burwood Development Control Plan (DCP) to strengthen acoustic provisions within active centres for public exhibition.
The amendments will apply to new and significant changes to Residential Accommodation, Tourist and Visitor Accommodation, Places of Public Worship, Hospitals, Medical Centres, Respite Day Care Centres, and Educational Establishments or Centre-based Child Care Facilities within the Burwood Town Centre, the R1, R3, E1 and MU1 zones, and areas where a Special Entertainment Precinct may apply.
The intent is to strengthen acoustic standards to support housing delivery in mixed-use and entertainment precincts, while ensuring a high level of protection for residents in the Burwood Town Centre, higher-density neighbourhoods and other active areas delivering on Burwood’s After Dark Strategy.

Please be advised that on the 28 of October 2025, Council resolved to adopt the amendments to Part 3 (Development In Centres and Corridors) and Part 4 (Development in Residential Areas)of the Burwood Development Control Plan (DCP).Part 3 (Development In Centres and Corridors) and Part 4 (Development in Residential Areas)
The provisions will require noise impact assessments and outcome-focused design responses, verified through conditions at DA, Construction Certificate and Occupation Certificate stages. The proposed amendments aim to strengthen acoustic standards to support housing delivery in mixed-use and entertainment precincts, while ensuring a high level of protection for residents in the Burwood Town Centre, higher-density neighbourhoods and other active areas.
Accordingly, for any new development proposals where these development controls apply, the applicant must ensure that the development adequately addresses the requirements of the new controls.
