Please be advised that on 28 October 2025, Council resolved to proceed with the public exhibition of amendments to the Burwood Development Control Plan (DCP) which introduces new requirements for apartment developments, including residential flat buildings and shop-top housing, to enhance liveability outcomes.

Accordingly, the amendments to the Burwood DCP requiring the provision of elements that enhance residential liveability and amenity are being publicly notified. These elements include the following:

  • Communal spaces including dedicated acoustically treated music rooms for children, multipurpose breakout areas for students and professionals, communal gyms, and active communal roof spaces.
  • End-of-trip facilities such as secure bicycle parking, showers, lockers, and change rooms to support sustainable transport options.
  • Wider corridors to enhance internal circulation, amenity and usability of space.
  • Car share parking facilities to encourage reduced car ownership and support sustainable mobility.
  • Measures to improve climate resilience and resource efficiency, ensuring buildings are adaptable and environmentally responsible
  • Electric vehicle (EV) readiness across the LGA, ensuring future developments incorporate safe, efficient and cost-effective EV charging infrastructure for residents, visitors and building services.
  • Improvements to streetscape amenity including hydrant facilities and substations to be integrated into building designs with architectural treatments, landscaping or artwork whilst not compromising on compliance with building code and technical requirements.
  • Façade illumination and Night-Time Activation to support the 24-hour economy and enhance night-time character of Burwood CBD and the Special Entertainment Precinct.
  • Minor editorial updates such as removal of references to SEPP 65 throughout the DCP.

The aim of the new provisions is to ensure that residential amenity is enhanced through high-quality design across both the public and private realms.

The notification period will consist of 28 days and will commence on Thursday 6 November 2025.
