Are you looking for a space to do your creative work? Apply to be one of the artist residents in our Creative Residency Studio!

Located in Burwood Library and Community Hub, the Creative Residency Studio has been developed by Council to provide artists a space to create, to experiment, and to hone their craft.

Express your interest in being a resident artist below. The Creative Residency is only open to artists 18 years of age and over.

Second round of applications will open on 19 August 2025 and close on 16 September 2025. Successful residents have access to the Creative Residency Studio from October 2025 to April 2026.

About the Studio

The Creative Residency Studio is an approx. 18m² sound insulated room. The studio currently contains the following equipment:

  • Microsoft Surface Studio with the Adobe Creative Suite installed
  • A 50" screen with Crestron sound bar
  • 12 power points
  • A chroma key background (green screen wall)
  • A Universal Audio Volt 276 Audio Interface and PreSonus Eris E3.5 BT Studio Monitors
  • A M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61 - USB Controller Keyboard

As part of the residency, successful applicants can bring their own equipment to use in their art making process.

Selection Process

Residency applications will close on 16 September 2025. Application will reviewed by a panel of Burwood Council's Community Life staff. Candidates shortlisted by this panel will be invited for one-on-one interviews to understand their specific needs in late September. Successful applicants will be announced in October and the residencies commence thereafter.

  • Impact of the residency on the development of the artists' creative practice
  • Suitability of the studio for the artists' creative practice
  • Intended outcome of the artists' use of the studio
  • Potential for further collaboration with Council

About the Residency

Successful applicants will have rostered access to a studio space to work on their chosen art form. The space is suitable for art forms such as music, digital artist, photography, film, textile artist, writing, etc. Please note that this space is not suitable for painting or pottery based art forms. Special access to the space will be provided to residents outside of library opening hours. Space usage will be shared among residents on a 7 day roster (please see EOI below to nominate days/times that would be most suitable to your practice).

This is an unpaid six-month residency; however, use of the space will be free for the successful applicants. Additionally, as part of the residency you will collaborate with the Library to deliver a free public workshop or exhibition.
