Consultation

The Draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan 2025 - 2026 has been developed to guide Council in building stronger relationships, understanding, respect and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the First Peoples of Australia, both internally and across our community.

As Council’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), it outlines a shared vision for reconciliation. This is articulated as:

“A community united by respect, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are celebrated as central to our shared identity. Guided by respect for the Wangal peoples and all First Nations peoples, we commit to building genuine partnerships that honour cultural knowledge and foster inclusion.”

The Draft Plan outlines 14 key actions and focuses on three key areas:

  • Relationships - between Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples, organisations, communities, professionals and staff.
  • Respect - acknowledgement of the Wangal Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land.
  • Opportunities - providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Draft Plan has been developed through a process of research, cultural awareness training, relationship-building and stakeholder consultations carried out between February and November 2024, with assistance from Aboriginal consultants, YarnnUp.

If you have feedback about any aspect of the Draft RAP we encourage you to make a submission by 27 April 2025 using the online form below.
