Burwood Council is making a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). This plan will guide how Council makes Burwood more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for people with disability over the next four years.

Over the past four years, under our current Disability Inclusion Action Plan, Burwood Council has worked with people with disability, carers, service providers and the community to make Burwood more accessible and inclusive.

Here is some of what we have achieved together:

  • Made parks, seating and signage easier to use
  • Created Mobility Maps for Burwood and Croydon town centres
  • Ran inclusive community events, including the Happy Nest artwork launch, Community Picnic, opening of the Burwood Park Inclusive Play Space, and accessibility improvements at Lunar Lanes
  • Introduced sensory friendly library sessions, delivered access programs at the Enfield Aquatic Centre and published an accessibility story book
  • Started work to improve employment opportunities for people with disability
  • Improved access to Council’s website, forms and customer service, including Easy Read versions
  • Trained all Council staff in disability inclusion and developed an online module for new staff

Our current plan is ending. We want your ideas to help shape the next one.

We want to hear from:

  • People with disability
  • Carers and family members
  • Community members
  • People who work in disability services, advocacy and support organisations
